Dik Pyotr

Born in the Glyaden village, in the Blagoveshenski region of Altai, on January 1st 1939.
From 1957 to 1962 he studied at the Sverdlovsk Art School.
In 1966, he moved to Vladimir.
From 1968 to 1973 he studied at the Moscow Higher Art-Industrial School (formerly Stroganov), in the metal working department.
On finishing school, he returned to Vladimir.
Since 1975 he has constantly participated in regional, Russian and all-union exhibits.
In 1977 he was accepted as a member of the USSR Union of Artists.
In 1991, Dik was given the title of Honorary Artist of Russia.
In 1994, he had a personal exhibition in the State Tretyakov Gallery and in the journal "Our Heritage" in Moscow.
In 1997, he exhibited in the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.

From 1996, he worked with "Les Oreades" gallery, where he held several personal exhibits.

Pyotr Dik died on August 14th 2002 in Moscow.

His works can be found in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine arts, the State Russian Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, the Vladimir-Suzdal Reserve Museum of History and Architecture, in the art museums of Oryol, Tver, Tula, Tyumen, Novosibirsk, in the archives of the Our Heritage magazine's editorial office, and in private collections in Russia and abroad.

One of Vladimir's most famous artists. He began his creative activity as a monumentalist artist. But then graphical arts became his primary focus: monotype first, then pastel, charcoal and other materials.

In his autobiography he wrote that his creative approach could be briefly defined as "subtraction of randomness" in the name of artistic expressiveness and getting deep into the "holy of holiest" of events and objects. The realm of things is de-materialized in an artistic piece and further transformed in the language of plastic arts, where only light, rhythm and color govern. This causes some sort of ambivalence of the real and the unreal. That is what the master worked with. In his opinion, a picture gets its own life breathed in when a medley of life experiences is shaped in an integral color and plastic being, in which all of its forms are not only in accord but also saturated with common energy currents.
