1922 -Born in Constantinople (Istanbul).
1929-1942 - Studied in a private French Catholic lycee.
1936 - Took drawing lessons from the famous Turkish artist, Abiddin Dino.
1939 - Participated in political activity.
1942 - Was accepted to the painting department of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Bedri Rakhmi Eiyuboglu.
Completed a four-year program in two years.
1944-1947 - Imprisoned for his political activity.
1949 - Emigrated to Syria, then to Livan (Beirut), where he taught painting in Armenian schools and lycees.
1956 - Moved to Poland with his family.
1959 - Moved to China.
Lived and worked in Peking.
1961 - Moved to Moscow.
Since 1963 - Taught Turkish language and literature at the Eastern Languages Institute at Moscow State University.
Since 1974 - Member of USSR Union of Artists.
1978 - Died in Moscow. Buried in Yerevan.
Since the beginning of the 1990's, the artist's paintings have been exhibited in "Les Oreades" gallery.
Ikhmalyan's works can be found at the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Eastern Art, the Glinka Museum of Musical Culture, the Museum at the Echmiadzinskii Cathedral (in the Katolikos collection), in the Russian Union of Artists and in Kaunas, Vilnius and Yerevan.
His works also form part of many private collections in Russia and abroad.
